Summer Fellow
About the Program
We're seeking recent and upcoming graduates from bachelor's and master's degree programs. Fellows work closely with EER partners on client engagements and an independent research project with hands-on training on our modeling tools.
Fellows complete an independent research project supporting ongoing analysis priorities, with optional participation in client projects. The program is self-directed with a partner-level advisor, periodic interim presentations, and a final deliverable (deck or report).
Research Project Topics
Clean Energy Supply Chain Deep Dive
To enhance our understanding of regional competitiveness in the clean technology value chain, fellows will conduct primary research on a single emerging technology (e.g., green ammonia, thermal energy storage, solid-state vehicle batteries). The project should analyze opportunities within a selected region (U.S., EU, or individual European countries), evaluate the full value chain from production to deployment, and identify available datasets suitable for parameterization in an energy system model.
Innovation Impact on Decarbonization
Despite recent policy setbacks, technological progress continues to reduce the cost of decarbonization. This project should quantify how improvements in technology cost and performance over time have reduced the overall cost of achieving decarbonization goals.
Propose Your Own
If you think you have a great idea for a summer project that relates to the research being done at EER, feel free to propose something new. Email lindsey.walter@evolved.energy to gauge interest in a particular topic before submitting an application.
See a sample proposal and previous fellows' projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- •Bachelor's degree + 2 years' work experience, or master's degree (master's degree candidates are encouraged to apply)
- •Work experience or academic background does not need to be directly energy-related
- •Comfort with client engagement over email and video
- •Ability to work in an unstructured environment with little oversight
- •Passionate about climate solutions
- •Early-career, open minded, here to learn
Bonus: Experience with Python, GIS, or Tableau.
Research Proposal Instructions
A key element of the fellowship program is an independent research project. We've provided possible topics above which relate directly to ongoing work at EER. We are also open to projects on other topics, provided they align with our research priorities.
Please include in your application a research proposal on one of the topics above. Proposals should be no longer than 500 words. If you'd prefer to research a different topic, please email a short description (no more than a paragraph) to lindsey.walter@evolved.energy to receive approval for the topic before writing your proposal.
